How to convert JPG to SVG in 3 steps
1. Choose your image
Select or drop 1 JPG, PNG or WebP file up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with neither side longer than 8,192 pixels. Use the clearest original you have; a crop of the artwork often traces better than a screenshot of the whole page. The file stays in your browser.
2. Adjust and convert
Start with the default settings, or adjust color detail and smoothing to see a quick preview. Click Convert to SVG for the full result. More color detail can preserve shading; stronger smoothing can simplify irregular edges.
3. Inspect and download
Compare the original and vector, then zoom in to inspect outlines and small gaps. Click Download SVG when the result is ready. If you change settings, convert again before downloading the updated file.
Why convert JPG to SVG?
Logos that scale
Use one outline for a small website icon and a larger layout. Start with an image you own, inspect the trace and keep a master SVG for later edits.
Artwork for cutting and printing
SVG can be a useful starting file for Cricut-style craft workflows, laser projects and print layouts. Check the paths, size and material requirements in your destination software. A successful download alone does not establish that a design is ready to cut or print.
JPG vs SVG: what is the difference?
A JPG describes a grid of colored pixels. This JPG to SVG converter traces regions of similar color into shapes and curves, then writes those paths into an SVG file. Enlarging the paths does not enlarge a fixed pixel grid.
Tracing redraws the source. It can give a logo cleaner scalable edges, but it cannot recover detail missing from a blurry original or preserve every texture in a photograph.
| Property | JPG | Traced SVG |
|---|---|---|
| Image structure | Pixels | Paths and filled shapes |
| Enlargement | Pixels become visible | Geometry scales cleanly |
| Best fit | Photographs and texture | Logos, icons and flat illustrations |
| Editing | Retouch pixels | Edit shapes in a vector editor |
Why use this converter instead of other tools?
For a single image-to-SVG task, the useful advantage is a short workflow: choose a file, inspect the trace and download on the same page. There is no editor installation, account setup or image upload in between.
| Your task | This converter | A full graphics editor |
|---|---|---|
| Get a traced SVG | Conversion and comparison on one page | Trace within a larger editing workspace |
| Edit individual nodes | Continue in an SVG editor | Use the editor’s path tools |
| Work with source photos | Simplifies pixels into shapes | Retouching depends on the editor |
| Choose a service | Local processing, no signup or conversion charge | Check that product’s current features and terms |
At a glance
| What you need to know | This converter |
|---|---|
| Input | 1 JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image, up to 20 MB (20,000,000 bytes). |
| Image dimensions | Up to 4 megapixels (4,000,000 pixels), with neither side longer than 8,192 pixels. |
| Output | An SVG made of vector paths, with no watermark. |
| Price | Free, unlimited conversions, no signup or credit card. |
| Processing | On your device, inside your browser. Images are not uploaded. |
| Time | Depends on the image, settings and your device. Progress follows the real conversion. |
| Best source | A clear logo, icon, illustration or line drawing. Photos become simplified artwork. |
Is it free?
Yes. You can make unlimited conversions without creating an account, entering a card or unlocking a download. The SVG has no added watermark.
Each task handles one image up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with a maximum side length of 8,192 pixels. File and device limits protect browser stability; they do not create a daily conversion allowance. Conversion uses local tracing, with no LLM request.
Why does my SVG look blurry or uneven?
Start with clear edges
JPEG compression adds small patches around high-contrast edges. Tracing may interpret those patches as shapes. Use the original export instead of a repeatedly saved JPG, crop unwanted background and avoid enlarging a tiny source before conversion.
Match detail to the subject
Try less color detail for a flat logo and more for a shaded illustration. Adjust smoothing cautiously: a cleaner outline can also remove a tiny corner or narrow gap. Inspect the result at a larger size before using it.
What happens to my image?
The conversion runs locally in your browser. Your image, filename and SVG content are not sent to a conversion server or an AI model.
Recent history shows up to 20 small thumbnails from the past 7 days on this device. Older entries are cleared when you open the converter again, and you can clear history yourself. A thumbnail cannot restore the original image or downloaded SVG. The service may collect limited usage metadata separately, but does not send images with those events.

Need a full vector editor?
This page handles image tracing. For drawing new shapes, editing individual nodes or arranging a larger design, a vector editor gives you more control after conversion. Read our independent VectorCraft guide to understand that workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Is the output a real vector SVG?
Yes. The converter generates vector paths instead of wrapping the original bitmap in an SVG image element. A vector editor can inspect and edit those paths.
Will the SVG look exactly like my photo?
No. A photo becomes a simplified vector illustration. Fine texture, soft shadows and gradients can change; keep the original photo when photographic fidelity matters.
How long does JPG to SVG conversion take?
It depends on your image, settings and device. The progress display follows actual processing; the converter does not promise a fixed completion time for every file.
Which file formats can I convert?
JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP are supported. Choose one file up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with a maximum side length of 8,192 pixels; output is SVG. PDF, GIF, HEIC and SVG input are not supported.
Do you upload or store my image?
No image is uploaded to or stored on our server. Conversion runs on your device. Local history shows small thumbnails from the past 7 days and clears older entries when you return; you can clear it anytime. It does not retain original files or SVG content.
Can I convert more than one image?
Yes, one at a time with unlimited conversions. Download the current result, then use Convert another image. There is no signup or daily conversion allowance.
Can I use the SVG commercially?
We charge no additional license fee for the output. You still need the appropriate rights to the original artwork, including any logos, fonts or other protected material it contains.
Does this work on a phone?
The converter is designed for current mobile browsers. Large or complex images can exceed a phone’s available memory; use a smaller source if processing fails. Saving the result follows your browser’s download controls.
