How to use this SVG converter in 3 steps
1. Choose your image
Select or drop 1 JPG, PNG or WebP file up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with neither side longer than 8,192 pixels. Select a raster image, not an existing SVG. The input hint lists every supported format. The file stays in your browser.
2. Adjust and convert
Start with the default settings, or adjust color detail and smoothing to see a quick preview. Click Convert to SVG for the full result. More color detail can preserve shading; stronger smoothing can simplify irregular edges.
3. Inspect and download
Compare the original and vector, then zoom in to inspect outlines and small gaps. Click Download SVG when the result is ready. If you change settings, convert again before downloading the updated file.
Choose the right source and level of detail
Use this tool when a website or design workflow needs scalable shapes from a supported image. For a photographed drawing, crop away the desk and shadows first. Use a straight, evenly lit view; tracing does not correct perspective or reconstruct obscured details.
For a logo or icon
Prioritize the silhouette, corners and clear gaps. Begin with moderate color detail and adjust smoothing carefully. Examine lettering holes and separate pieces at a larger zoom.
For a photo or illustration
Expect a stylized result. Extra color detail can retain shading, while lower detail creates broader graphic regions. Keep the original raster image when photographic texture matters. A phone image saved as HEIC needs a JPG, PNG or WebP export before you select it here.
Image to SVG: what does this converter do?
When you convert to SVG here, the tool traces pixels from a JPG, PNG or WebP into paths, curves and filled shapes. To vectorize an image is to reconstruct those visible shapes; it does not recover the layers, editable fonts or hidden artwork from the original design.
An SVG converter can also mean a tool for the reverse direction. This one does not rasterize SVG to PNG or JPG, compress an existing SVG, convert PDFs, or process image batches. It traces an existing picture rather than generating a new subject from a text prompt.
Changing the extension is not conversion
Renaming photo.jpg to photo.svg does not turn pixels into paths. An SVG can also contain an embedded bitmap, so the extension alone does not prove that artwork is vector. This converter writes traced paths instead of wrapping the original image in an SVG image element.
SVG converter vs VectorCraft
This page offers local tracing with a small set of controls and an immediate SVG download. VectorCraft is a broader vector-editing application whose official feature list includes tracing, path editing and several import/export formats. Read the current project limits before relying on a specific editor workflow.
At a glance
| What you need to know | This converter |
|---|---|
| Input | 1 JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image, up to 20 MB (20,000,000 bytes). |
| Image dimensions | Up to 4 megapixels (4,000,000 pixels), with neither side longer than 8,192 pixels. |
| Output | An SVG made of vector paths, with no watermark. |
| Price | Free, unlimited conversions, no signup or credit card. |
| Processing | On your device, inside your browser. Images are not uploaded. |
| Time | Depends on the image, settings and your device. Progress follows the real conversion. |
| Best source | A clear logo, icon, illustration or line drawing. Photos become simplified artwork. |
Is it free?
Yes. You can make unlimited conversions without creating an account, entering a card or unlocking a download. The SVG has no added watermark.
Each task handles one image up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with a maximum side length of 8,192 pixels. File and device limits protect browser stability; they do not create a daily conversion allowance. Conversion uses local tracing, with no LLM request.
How do I know the SVG is useful?
Open the result and zoom in. The subject should have the right proportions, essential gaps should remain open, and small parts should not disappear. A file extension alone does not establish tracing quality.
The output uses paths, not an embedded copy of the source bitmap. Complex sources can still create many paths and a large file. Reduce color detail or simplify the source if that happens; a tiny SVG is not always the right goal.
What happens to my image?
The conversion runs locally in your browser. Your image, filename and SVG content are not sent to a conversion server or an AI model.
Recent history shows up to 20 small thumbnails from the past 7 days on this device. Older entries are cleared when you open the converter again, and you can clear history yourself. A thumbnail cannot restore the original image or downloaded SVG. The service may collect limited usage metadata separately, but does not send images with those events.
Need a full vector editor?
This page handles image tracing. For drawing new shapes, editing individual nodes or arranging a larger design, a vector editor gives you more control after conversion. Read our independent VectorCraft guide to understand that workflow.
Frequently asked questions
Can this convert SVG to JPG or PNG?
No. This version only converts JPG, PNG and WebP images to SVG. For the reverse direction, use a vector editor or a dedicated raster export tool.
Can I compress an existing SVG here?
No. SVG compression and existing-SVG input are outside this converter’s scope. Choose a supported raster image to start a trace.
Does changing .jpg to .svg convert the image?
No. Renaming a file does not create vector paths. Run the conversion to generate a valid SVG, then inspect the downloaded result.
Is vectorizing the same as converting to SVG?
In this tool, yes. It traces a raster image into shapes and saves those paths as SVG. It does not restore original layers, text objects or hidden artwork.
Which file formats can I convert?
JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP are supported. Choose one file up to 20 MB and 4 megapixels, with a maximum side length of 8,192 pixels; output is SVG. PDF, GIF, HEIC and SVG input are not supported.
Do you upload or store my image?
No image is uploaded to or stored on our server. Conversion runs on your device. Local history shows small thumbnails from the past 7 days and clears older entries when you return; you can clear it anytime. It does not retain original files or SVG content.
Can I convert more than one image?
Yes, one at a time with unlimited conversions. Download the current result, then use Convert another image. There is no signup or daily conversion allowance.
Can I use the SVG commercially?
We charge no additional license fee for the output. You still need the appropriate rights to the original artwork, including any logos, fonts or other protected material it contains.
Does this work on a phone?
The converter is designed for current mobile browsers. Large or complex images can exceed a phone’s available memory; use a smaller source if processing fails. Saving the result follows your browser’s download controls.
