What is EffectCraft?
The short answer
EffectCraft organizes visual work into compositions, layers and time-based changes. It is relevant to animated titles, composited footage and other scenes where elements change over time.
The official project labels the application alpha and discloses compatibility and workflow limits. An extensive feature list does not establish that an existing commercial motion project or plugin will work unchanged.
What can you do with EffectCraft?
These are official feature descriptions, not results from our own application tests. Check the current roadmap and release notes for the build you plan to use.
Documented workflows
- Build compositions from multiple visual layers.
- Animate properties with documented keyframe and expression tools.
- Explore documented camera, lighting and compositing capabilities.
- Use the render and export workflow, checking the formats and features supported by the current build.
How is EffectCraft different from the other ArtCraft apps?
EffectCraft focuses on motion graphics and compositing. FilmCraft focuses on cutting and arranging footage. PhotoCraft is for image editing, while VectorCraft is for vector illustration.
LightCraft has a different purpose: managing photos and developing RAW images. Despite the names, it is not EffectCraft’s companion lighting-design application.
Should you use it?
Official release assets include desktop packages and a self-hostable WebAssembly build. A web download needs setup; it is not a verified official hosted editor. Open-source code is inspectable, but that does not guarantee a download’s safety or a workflow’s compatibility.
Try a small project first
Try a short animation using a few layers and one effect you depend on. Test preview behavior, animation timing and the exported render before expanding the composition.
If you work with an established After Effects project or third-party plugins, inspect the current official compatibility limits first. This guide does not claim a drop-in replacement or independently verified render quality.
How to get started
- 1. Read the official app page and current release notes.
- 2. Choose the build for your operating system, or a web package if you plan to self-host it.
- 3. Test a copy of a representative project, including opening the exported result in its destination software.
