What is FilmCraft?

The short answer

FilmCraft is built around editing moving footage: assembling clips on a timeline, adjusting their presentation and working with accompanying audio. That is a more specific role than a general “film tool.”

The project describes alpha development. Its documentation lists limitations in areas such as project compatibility, plugins, codecs and platform verification. Treat those as practical questions to test with your own media.

What can you do with FilmCraft?

These are official feature descriptions, not results from our own application tests. Check the current roadmap and release notes for the build you plan to use.

Documented workflows

  • Arrange and edit video clips on a timeline.
  • Use documented color, effects and keyframe workflows.
  • Work with captions and audio alongside the picture.
  • Check the current export formats and codec limits for the delivery file you need.

How is FilmCraft different from the other ArtCraft apps?

FilmCraft focuses on editing footage into a sequence. EffectCraft focuses on motion graphics, compositing and visual effects. Those jobs can meet in a video project but are not interchangeable.

PhotoCraft and VectorCraft are more relevant for still-image or SVG work. If your only task is tracing one logo, installing a video editor does not add a necessary step.

Should you use it?

Official release assets include desktop packages and a self-hostable WebAssembly build. A web download needs setup; it is not a verified official hosted editor. Open-source code is inspectable, but that does not guarantee a download’s safety or a workflow’s compatibility.

Try a small project first

Start with a short copy of a project containing the codecs, frame rates and audio you normally use. Inspect synchronization and the exported result, not only the timeline preview.

Release assets include a self-hostable web package even where the main website platform list emphasizes desktop builds. Browser functionality can differ, and this guide has not verified a hosted FilmCraft editor or desktop/browser equivalence.

How to get started

  • 1. Read the official app page and current release notes.
  • 2. Choose the build for your operating system, or a web package if you plan to self-host it.
  • 3. Test a copy of a representative project, including opening the exported result in its destination software.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit video with FilmCraft in a browser?

A self-hostable WebAssembly build is listed in official releases. It requires setup and has browser-specific limits; we have not verified an official hosted editing service.

Is FilmCraft part of ArtCraft?

Yes. FilmCraft is a standalone Crafting App made by the ArtCraft team. The ArtCraft AI studio is a separate product.

Is FilmCraft free and open source?

Yes. The official project offers the app for free and describes its code license as MIT or Apache-2.0. Check separate notices for bundled assets and brand materials.
