What is LightCraft?
The short answer
LightCraft combines photo management with non-destructive RAW development. It is designed around organizing a collection and adjusting how camera images are rendered, rather than designing lighting effects.
The official project describes alpha development and documents limitations around camera color calibration, some RAW variants and other processing features. A camera file opening successfully does not establish that its color output matches another developer.
What can you do with LightCraft?
These are official feature descriptions, not results from our own application tests. Check the current roadmap and release notes for the build you plan to use.
Documented workflows
- Organize photographs using library, album, rating and filtering workflows.
- Adjust exposure, color and curves while preserving a non-destructive editing approach.
- Explore documented presets and masking tools.
- Check support for your specific camera and RAW variant before importing a large collection.
How is LightCraft different from the other ArtCraft apps?
LightCraft serves a photography library and development workflow. PhotoCraft focuses on image editing with layers and masks, while VectorCraft focuses on scalable shapes and paths.
EffectCraft is the motion-graphics and visual-effects app. LightCraft’s name should not be used to infer an overlap with studio lighting or compositing; its documented role is photo management and RAW editing.
Should you use it?
Official release assets include desktop packages and a self-hostable WebAssembly build. A web download needs setup; it is not a verified official hosted editor. Open-source code is inspectable, but that does not guarantee a download’s safety or a workflow’s compatibility.
Try a small project first
Try a small set of duplicate camera files, including different exposures and a difficult color sample. Check previews, adjustments and exported images in the viewing workflow you intend to use.
Keep your originals and compare the result before moving a working library. We have not independently verified camera compatibility, color accuracy, library migration or long-term catalog behavior.
How to get started
- 1. Read the official app page and current release notes.
- 2. Choose the build for your operating system, or a web package if you plan to self-host it.
- 3. Test a copy of a representative project, including opening the exported result in its destination software.
