What is DesignCraft?
The short answer
DesignCraft brings text, images and graphic elements together on pages and spreads. Its intended workflow includes publications such as brochures, magazines and other page-based designs, rather than only social-media graphics.
The project is in pre-alpha development. Its official feature list includes publishing and print-related capabilities, while its roadmap identifies gaps in core workflows. Both facts matter: a feature list is not proof of a finished production tool.
What can you do with DesignCraft?
These are official feature descriptions, not results from our own application tests. Check the current roadmap and release notes for the build you plan to use.
Documented workflows
- Arrange pages, spreads, text frames and styles.
- Work with layout features such as text wrapping, color and placement.
- Explore documented PDF, PNG, EPUB and IDML workflows, checking actual format limitations.
- Review documented print settings such as CMYK, spot colors and bleed against the current build.
How is DesignCraft different from the other ArtCraft apps?
DesignCraft focuses on assembling a page. PhotoCraft focuses on editing images, and VectorCraft focuses on drawing and refining vectors. A publication can use assets from both, but each exported file still needs to be checked.
ArtCraft is the related AI studio; the Crafting Apps are separate applications from the same team. You do not need to describe every app as one combined suite to understand their relationship.
Should you use it?
Official release assets include desktop packages and a self-hostable WebAssembly build. A web download needs setup; it is not a verified official hosted editor. Open-source code is inspectable, but that does not guarantee a download’s safety or a workflow’s compatibility.
Try a small project first
Try a short, non-critical layout with the fonts and linked images you normally use. Test text flow, page changes and export before committing a larger publication.
Because the current project is pre-alpha, confirm the specific functions you depend on. We have not verified printing, color accuracy or round-trip compatibility, and do not claim that it can replace an established publishing workflow.
How to get started
- 1. Read the official app page and current release notes.
- 2. Choose the build for your operating system, or a web package if you plan to self-host it.
- 3. Test a copy of a representative project, including opening the exported result in its destination software.
Frequently asked questions
Is DesignCraft only for simple posters?
No. Its documented scope is page layout and publishing, including print-related features. It is still pre-alpha, so verify that your required workflow actually works in the current build.
Is DesignCraft part of ArtCraft?
Yes. DesignCraft is a standalone Crafting App made by the ArtCraft team. The ArtCraft AI studio is a separate product.
Is DesignCraft free and open source?
Yes. The official project offers the app for free and describes its code license as MIT or Apache-2.0. Check separate notices for bundled assets and brand materials.
