Review basis: documentation, not hands-on testing
We checked the official directory, pricing and versioned project documents on October 12, 2026. We have not installed the suite, benchmarked it against Adobe applications or tested customer files. This review separates documented capabilities from the checks you should make before switching. A familiar interface or a long feature list does not establish identical results.
What looks useful
The Crafting Apps cover the full creative stack
The seven creative tools covered by our original guides span these distinct jobs. The live official directory now lists twelve apps: WordCraft, GridCraft and DeckCraft add office workflows, while SoundCraft and CADCraft cover audio and CAD. Seven is a useful starting group, not the current total.
| App | Main documented task | Independent guide |
|---|---|---|
| PhotoCraft | Pixel and layered image editing; Photoshop-style workflows | PhotoCraft guide |
| VectorCraft | Vector paths and illustration; Illustrator-style workflows | VectorCraft guide |
| DesignCraft | Page layout and publishing | DesignCraft guide |
| LightCraft | Photo library and RAW development | LightCraft guide |
| FilmCraft | Video editing | FilmCraft guide |
| EffectCraft | Motion graphics and visual effects | EffectCraft guide |
| PdfCraft | Reading and organizing PDF documents | PdfCraft guide |
One launcher, separate app downloads
ArtCraft Launcher provides a central catalog to install, open and update individual apps. Its v0.2.1 documentation describes selecting the matching operating-system and processor build and checking its published checksum. It does not mean one small download contains the entire suite. Standalone app packages remain available.
Studio vs Crafting Apps: two products, two rules
The Studio is an AI workspace
ArtCraft Studio combines AI image and video generation with composition tools. It has desktop downloads and a hosted browser entry point. Use those when you want to build or generate a scene; the Studio launch button is not a shortcut into PhotoCraft, VectorCraft or WordCraft.
The Crafting Apps are local, open-source tools
The separate apps target file-based creative and office work. The official directory describes native Rust applications that work on your own machine. Check each app’s download page for its platforms and browser-build instructions; a self-hosted WebAssembly package still needs hosting.
Don't judge one by the other
For example, editing a layered image and paying for an AI video generation are different actions. A free editor download does not include unlimited hosted generation, and a Studio credit plan does not determine whether a separate app can open your project. Choose the product before comparing cost or compatibility.
Pricing: what's free and what's not
The Crafting Apps are free and open-source
The official directory offers the apps as free and open source. Individual repositories describe their licenses and any separate asset or branding notices. That gives you a way to inspect the code and evaluate the software without treating a subscription as proof of quality.
The Studio's AI generation has its own terms
The official pricing page offers credit-based plans and top-ups. It also says ArtCraft can be used without an ArtCraft subscription when bringing your own compute and third-party subscriptions. Costs therefore depend on the generation route you choose. Check the current billing period, model usage and terms rather than treating a temporary promotional monthly figure as universal.
Where the current limits matter
Alpha status and file fidelity
Maturity varies by app. WordCraft v0.5.0 is explicitly alpha; its roadmap identifies DOCX round-trip, pagination and stability work. A document that opens is not necessarily a document that preserves every editable object after saving. Check the named app and version, then reopen a representative copy in the application used by your collaborators.
Not yet a daily professional replacement
PhotoCraft’s v0.7.0 README says that version is not yet a Photoshop replacement for daily professional work, citing gaps including typography, professional workflows and plug-in compatibility. This is a dated PhotoCraft disclosure, not a verdict on every Crafting App or every future version. For your own trial, check the exact fonts, effects and exported files your next delivery needs.
Who should try it
Freelancers leaving Adobe subscriptions
Start with one repeatable job and a copy of its files. Compare opening, editing, exporting and reopening before changing the software used for a client deadline. A successful small trial is more useful than a suite-wide promise.
Developers and Rust enthusiasts
The repositories offer a concrete way to inspect implementation, reproduce an issue and contribute a focused fix. Record the release or commit when discussing a capability so another person can check the same version.
Hobbyists who want local, private tools
An offline personal project can be a useful first exercise. Keep the original file and compare the result after saving. Choose the app that fits the task instead of installing the whole family simply because it is free.
Frequently asked questions
Is GetArtCraft really free?
The Crafting Apps are free, open-source downloads. Studio generation has separate credit and service terms; the official pricing page also describes using your own compute and third-party subscriptions without an ArtCraft subscription.
Can it replace Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects?
PhotoCraft, VectorCraft and EffectCraft address those different workflows. Suitability depends on the app, version and files. This documentation review does not establish full compatibility or a single replacement verdict for the suite.
Is this the official site?
No. JPG to SVG is an independent website. The labelled official links take you to the ArtCraft team’s pages and repositories.
What's the difference between the Studio and the apps?
The Studio is the AI image and video workspace. The Crafting Apps are separate applications for editing and other file-based tasks. Their downloads, capabilities and service costs should be checked separately.
