Review basis: documentation, not a hands-on score
This review evaluates the v0.7.0 README, release and roadmap, checked on October 11, 2026. We have not installed the application or run a comparison benchmark. The conclusions below concern the documented scope and a useful way to test it; they are not star ratings or measured speed results.
What looks useful
The release documentation lists 55 tools, alongside layers, masks, adjustments and editable shape workflows. Those are relevant to compositing an image from separate elements and keeping edits reversible. The number refers to v0.7.0, not the changing development branch.
What the PSD figures actually say
The project reports preserved rendering for 307 of 309 files in its psd-tools test set and matching pixels for 116 of 116 tested shape layers. These are the project’s own corpus results. They do not mean every PSD file is compatible or that saving through the application preserves every byte. We did not reproduce these tests.
Where the current limits matter
The project identifies gaps in generative features, typography, professional workflows and plugin compatibility. A document can look familiar while a required operation still behaves differently. For client delivery, make a copy containing your actual fonts, masks and effects, then check its exported and reopened appearance in the receiving application.
Who should try it?
It is an option to explore when you want an open-source editor and can test the work you depend on. Treat a trial as a small editing exercise: open a known file, make one masked adjustment, change text, export and compare. Record the version with your result so you can repeat the test after an update. For a quick crop or resize, our separate browser tool gets that smaller job done now.

Does 307/309 mean every PSD will work?
No. It describes rendering in one reported corpus, not all files or byte-identical application saves.

Use a representative copy of your work to decide. The documented gaps may or may not affect that task.
