A comparison with a defined scope
This is a documentation comparison checked on October 11, 2026, using PhotoCraft v0.7.0 and Adobe’s product and plan pages. We have not run the two applications side by side. A listed feature establishes an intended capability, not identical behavior, output quality or speed.
Free vs paid: what changes?
Adobe offers different plans for individuals, students and businesses. Region, billing term and promotions can change the price. Use the linked current plan page rather than making a decision from a fixed monthly number copied into a comparison title.
| Decision | PhotoCraft | Photoshop |
|---|---|---|
| Application access | Free download; open-source code | Paid plans offered by Adobe |
| Layered editing | Documented layers, masks and adjustments | Image-editing product with layered workflows |
| Existing PSD work | Check the current compatibility limits | Check the version and workflow used by collaborators |
| Plugins and production workflow | Project records gaps in these areas | Check support for your particular plugins and plan |
Test the exchange you actually need
Choose a copy with a text layer, mask, blend mode and effect you commonly use. Open it, make a small change, save and reopen it where the next person will work. Compare the dimensions, text layout and visible edges. An import that opens successfully is only the first step; a flattened export may hide lost editability.
Which workflow fits?
A personal illustration with flexible delivery requirements can be a useful trial. A shared document with required plugins or exact handoff conventions needs a stricter check. Keep that distinction tied to your project, instead of assuming either that free software cannot work or that a familiar interface makes the two products interchangeable.
Only need a crop or a smaller export?
Our lightweight image editor handles crop, resize and PNG/JPEG/WebP export in your browser. It does not provide layered PSD editing, painting or a Photoshop-compatible workspace. For that smaller task you can begin immediately, keep your image local and download without creating an account.

No universal compatibility guarantee is established. Test the features and round trip required by your own documents.
Why is there no fixed Photoshop price?
Adobe prices depend on region, plan and billing terms; the linked official page provides current offers.
