What this comparison covers
We compared the official VectorCraft v0.9.0 documentation with Adobe’s product and plan pages on October 11, 2026. We have not run a side-by-side editing or performance test. This is a guide to the documented choices, not a claim that a similar menu produces an identical result.
Compare the workflow, not just the feature label
A useful trace still needs inspection. Thin gaps, overlapping shapes and text outlines can affect what you do next. A feature named “image tracing” does not establish a quality winner on every photograph or logo.

File compatibility needs an end-to-end check
The VectorCraft documentation distinguishes PDF-compatible AI files from a blanket promise to preserve every Illustrator feature. Test a copy containing your important fonts, effects and layers. Make an edit, export, reopen and inspect both the visible artwork and its editability. If a printer, collaborator or cutter requires a particular file convention, include that destination in the test.
Free vs paid, with current terms
VectorCraft’s download cost and Illustrator’s subscription cost are different models. Adobe offers several plans, and the applicable price depends on region, billing term and eligibility. We link the current official plan page instead of presenting a fixed monthly amount as universal. The VectorCraft project also records alpha-stage limitations, which matter separately from price.
Only need one SVG trace?
Our independent converter accepts a JPG, PNG or WebP and creates SVG paths locally. Adjust detail and smoothing, compare the output and download without an account. Use a full editor afterward when you need to move nodes, recreate lettering or arrange several objects.

Is VectorCraft a complete Illustrator replacement?
This comparison does not establish that. Test the documented limits against your actual work.
Which has better tracing?
We have not run a controlled comparison on shared samples, so no measured winner is claimed.
Does support for AI mean every Illustrator file works?
